Do you want to have an adventure in an unfamiliar culture and apply these eye opening experiences to your art and design practices? If so, this is for you!
The focus of this trip is exploring the notion of “Touching the Void” through the native materials, objects, and architecture of Japan. The trip starts with a traditional Japanese papermaking workshop in Tokushima. Afterwards students will visit the contemporary art museums on the rustic Naoshima island. The trip will continue on to Kyoto and Tokyo to visit temples, shrines, art studios and museums to explore both traditional and contemporary Japanese art and culture. In Tokyo students will take a one-day workshop in Japanese special concept “間”-Ma led by the guest artist Sayumi Yokouchi and will make small-scale artwork with papers they have made in Tokushima. |
